Dane Mizutani: Vikings better beat lowly Bears this weekend, or else it might be time

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 15:25:12 GMT

When the Vikings step onto the natural grass at Solider Field in Chicago this Sunday, they will do so with the same record as the much-maligned team that calls the Windy City home.As of right now, the Vikings are no better than the lowly Chicago Bears, at least as far as the NFC North standings are concerned.Never mind that the Vikings might have a better roster from top to bottom. They haven’t done much this season to prove they should be taken seriously this season. They stumbled out of the starting blocks with losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers before narrowly escaping with a win over the Carolina Panthers, the only winless team in the NFL.As a follow-up, the Vikings hung tough in a 27-20 loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. That performance might have carried a little more weight had the first month not already put the Vikings in chase mode. There’s simply no ...

The Department of Justice’s Office of Civil Rights has referred for federal criminal investigation the allegation that Colorado Springs police used excessive force in the violent arrest of a Black man last year, according to a letter released Monday by that man’s attorneys. The criminal referral, made last week by Michael Alston, director of the DOJ’s Office of Civil Rights, comes two months after the Colorado Springs Police Department announced an internal investigation had found officers did not use excessive force while arresting 29-year-old Dalvin Gadson in October 2022.“By referring this case for criminal investigation, the Department of Justice is putting these officers on notice,” Kevin Mehr, one of Gadson’s attorneys, said in a news release. “The CSPD may not take brutality seriously, but the DOJ does.”Representatives of the Colorado Springs Police Department were not immediately available for comment Monday.Alston’s letter states Gadson filed a ...

Broncos stock report: A couple of impressive undrafted rookies, but troubling performances all around in trenches for Denver

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 15:25:12 GMT

Stock UpRB Jaleel McLaughlinThe rookie running back had 63 yards and a touchdown on the Broncos’ opening drive and continued showing big-play ability. McLaughlin finished with 89 total yards on 12 touches and now has 193 on 22 over his past two games. He’s tied for the team lead with three touchdowns, fifth on the team in scrimmage yards (206) overall and is averaging 7.1 per touch. Not bad for an undrafted free agent.Pat Surtain IIRarely is it good when players’ parents tweet during blowout losses, but it’s difficult to argue with Patrick Surtain Sr.’s sentiment during the Miami game that PS2 deserves better. Second half of the historic loss to the Dolphins aside, he’s playing really well. On Sunday, Jets No. 1 Garrett Wilson didn’t do much against Surtain — the one time he had a step down the sideline, Zach Wilson threw the ball out of bounds. When Denver really needed a stop, the All-Pro corner came up with a pick. And yet, the unit as a whole has been the worst in football by a ...

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 15:25:12 GMT

By Emily Weinstein, The New York TimesYou need recipe basics the same way you need wardrobe basics: the pair of jeans or white shirt that you can easily throw on, items that mix and match with other things or stand alone. The baked fish below from Ali Slagle is just that: a streamlined dish that’s simple to make and goes with just about any seasoning or side. (The other four recipes are just downright delicious.)Baked Tilapia. Tilapia is great for picky eaters because it’s mildly flavored and sweet — not fishy at all. Food Stylist: Simon Andrews (David Malosh, The New York Times)1. Baked TilapiaTilapia has a flaky texture and a sweet, mild taste, so it welcomes assertive seasonings. This baked, sheet-pan recipe coats the fish with butter, lemon, garlic and parsley, but feel free to switch up the flavor as you like; paprika, Old Bay, ginger, lime and tarragon would all be great. Keep in mind that there are environmental issues around tilapia farming, so use resources such as Seafood ...
