DETROIT (AP) — New York Mets ace Max Scherzer struggled in his return from a suspension Wednesday night, allowing six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers during the second game of a doubleheader.“I was spraying the ball, especially out of the stretch, and that’s what you expect coming off a long layoff,” Scherzer said. “The number one thing was getting through this start healthy, and we did that. Now we can move forward.” Detroit won 8-1 to sweep the twinbill. Scherzer was suspended for 10 games by Major League Baseball on April 20 after getting ejected for having a foreign substance on his pitching hand during his April 19 start against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The three-time Cy Young Award winner was facing the Tigers for the third time since leaving the team after the 2014 season. In the first of those starts, he matched a major league record for a nine-inning game with 20 strikeouts during a May 2016 win in Washington. DENVER (KDVR) -- Property taxes have been a hot topic these last days of the legislative session. A proposal rolled out on Monday is on the calendar for debate in the Senate Wednesday night. While the governor and lawmakers are highlighting the reductions that could come from the new property tax proposal, others are advising on how the measure could impact money elsewhere.FOX31 political analyst Michael Fields is the president of the conservative think tank Advance Colorado. He is working on an initiative to get a property tax measure on the ballot this year or next year."Basically, this would not be billions of dollars like the governor's plan would be to take TABOR refunds from people. This is really what's going on with his property tax relief. It's saying 'we're going to take a large portion of your TABOR refunds that would be coming back to you anyway, we're going to put it into property tax relief, and act like this is some kind of property tax cut for you,'" Fields said. DENVER (KDVR) — Flood concerns are increasing due to rapid snowmelt in northwest Colorado. Flood watches are in effect through Saturday for parts of Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. This includes Lower Yampa River Basin, Central Yampa River Basin, Elkhead and Park Mountains, Upper Yampa River Basin, and Flat Tops - including the cities of Rangely, Dinosaur, Craig, Hayden, Meeker, Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Steamboat Springs, Buford, and Trappers Lake. The concern is that rapid snowmelt could lead to excessive runoff, which may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Be careful if you are traveling in those areas because creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, low-water crossings may be flooded. Another concern is that storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.A flood warning is also in effect for portions of the Dolores River from t...‘He went out as a hero’: Girlfriend of man shot and killed at Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes speaks out

Triston Casas needed a game like this.Mired in a terrible slump to start the season and coming into the game 0 for his last 11, the rookie stepped to the plate three straight innings with a chance to either tie the game, put the Red Sox ahead or otherwise do serious damage. He delivered with back-to-back game-tying RBI singles and then crushed a fly ball to the warning track in the sixth that on a slightly less windy night would have been an easy grand slam.“That was one of my best swings of the season, honestly,” Casas said of the deep fly out. “Everything evens out, the baseball gods know everything and they got me that hit that last at bat. … I’m confident everything will even out and I’m just doing my best to swing at good pitches and barrel them up as often as possible.”Casas finished 3 for 5 with two RBI, helping power a somewhat odd but still decisive 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. SAN DIEGO - Law enforcement throughout San Diego County joined together to pay their respects to fallen deputies, officers and agents. "A time to remember": That's the message wrapped around the hearts of San Diego law enforcement Wednesday. “When tragedy strikes, our families are the ones who are left behind to accept the sacrifice made," shared Chief Aaron Heitke with the U.S. Border Patrol. That reminder was symbolized by the empty chairs lined in front of the podium. One of them honoring Agent Daniel H. Salazar who died May 13, 2022, after he was fatally injured while conducting line watch operations, after his service vehicle rolled off a steep embankment adjacent to the international border. When asked about the legacy of Agent Salazar, one of his closest friends and colleagues Agent Dylan Robinson was at a loss for words. "I can’t even explain it. It’s a different kind of pain. He was my best friend...we were inseparable," Robinson said. The other person honored was State Par...Latest news
