The easiest way to get a $7,500 tax credit for an electric vehicle? Consider leasing

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:05:07 GMT

DETROIT (AP) — Thanks to a boost from the government, leasing — not buying — is becoming the most affordable way to get your hands on an electric vehicle.Last year’s Inflation Reduction Act provided a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 to use toward an EV. Under the rules, a dealer can apply that credit to any leased electric vehicle, no matter where it’s made, to reduce a customer’s monthly payment. Not so for people who buy an EV.For buyers, only EVs made in North America qualify for the full tax credit. And only 10 of the 49 electric vehicles for sale in the United States this year meet that requirement. Even then, the EV must contain certain percentages of battery parts from the United States or countries with which it has a trade deal for the buyer to receive a full $7,500 credit. Why the distinction between leased and purchases vehicles? The Treasury Department says that in establishing the tax credit, Congress classified leased — but not purchased — EVs as “commercia...

The bill, introduced by Councilman Ernie Trakas, prohibits pedestrians from walking, running, sitting, or simply standing in a roadway when a sidewalk is provided. If a sidewalk isn't nearby, then people would be allowed to move on the left side of a roadway or on a shoulder facing traffic coming in the opposite direction. Is Jimmy Butler's new St. Louis Browns hat a source of NBA trash talk?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:05:07 GMT

BOSTON - There's a little bit of St. Louis heading to the NBA Finals, but maybe not quite in the way most would expect. St. Louis native and Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum just missed out on an opportunity to compete in his second consecutive NBA Finals. The Celtics went down 3-0 to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Final, stormed back to even the series at 3-3, then lost Game 7 at home on Monday night in blowout fashion. Tatum is loyal to St. Louis just about as much as any professional athlete from the area, though it appears he has competition in representing his hometown. Heat star Jimmy Butler, following a Game 7 win and on-court celebrations Monday, sported a St. Louis Browns hat during postgame press conferences.
